Day 3 - 600miles
After a great start to the day I was making great progress. I was going a longer way and was off course but it actually didn't seem to matter as eventually I would end up at home.
Then the unspeakable happened.
As I pulled away slowly at a roundabout an elderly couple accelerated directly into the back of me!
I was jetesoned into the air as on a bucking horse and velocity red went down. Thankfully hard saddlebags and floorboards prevented an amazing amount of potential damage to me and my bike.
I landed hard on my rump and got up initially dazed and shocked. Once focused with some help from the paramedics we lifted my bike onto it's side stand. Police and paramedics appeared from nowhere immediately and I was thoroughly checked out before all details were exchanged.
As a retired police officer the scene and feelings off shock were all too familiar for me.
I photographed the damage to both vehicles at the scene and checked the welfare of the elderly couple as the female party could not stop apologising to me as she was visibly shaken.
Luckily my bike was still rideable with predominantly cosmetic damage to paint.
I still had a huge distance to travel and whilst tired by the stress of the incident I decided to make the best of the situation and ride home. Sadly my fuel warning light stopped working with the gauge because of the bike's upset, so gauging fuel stops was important but manageable due to the trip meter.
Sometimes getting lost means you ride the best roads and see the best scenery ever.
From Le Puy En Valey towards Montelimar I rode about 60miles through the Cevennes National Park mountains and some of the prettiest scenery ever. Never ending bends meandering down through the valleys surrounded by cascades of rivers which were spell binding. Groups of other bikers were also enjoying the route and I wished my girlfriend could have been with me to enjoy this leg of the ride.
Sadly I didn't be top to take photos as I was enjoying the ride too much. I will simply have to return and spend more time slowly navigating the amazing roads of this area with my camera to share the amazing scenery.
On finally reaching home my mileage trip meter was reading 1707miles.
Not bad for a three day road trip.
